Why did Adam Sandler sign a 4-movie deal with Netflix?

LOS ANGELES (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Actor Adam Sandler reportedly signed a four-movie deal with Netflix and you won't believe why.

Sandler's production company will work with Netflix to produce the four films, the first of which could be out as early as 2015, the DailyDot reported. The New Hampshire native is best known for his comedies including Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, leading some to believe that the movies he produces with Netflix will remain in that genre.

Sandler's recent films have been widely criticized, but he's proved that he can still attract viewers having grossed about $3.9 billion in sales across the globe. Netflix says that Sandler's films are consistently the most-viewed by customers, giving them another reason to work with the actor.

Sandler's reason for signing the deal? Because "Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks."

“When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only... Netflix rhymes with Wet Chicks,” a statement from Sandler read. “Let the streaming begin!”

Was that the real reason for the deal?

said Sandler admitted to planning his projects based on where he'd like to vacation. The actor reportedly told Jimmy Kimmel on his show that he encourages his writers to set the locations for films in places that will allow him to expand his souvenir collection.

Sandler doesn't seem to benefit from the deal as much as Netflix due to the other avenues of income, including branding and a percentage of downloads and ticket sales, that a more traditional deal would entail. However, TheVerge reported that Sandler agreed to the deal because it's easy. Even though he may not make as much, there is less risk involved given that Netflix is funding the movies.

Sandler reportedly makes about $20 million per film, $15 million for acting and another $5 million for producing.
