Who is Jason Dalton, the alleged Kalamazoo shooter

Some people who know Jason Brian Dalton, 45, says they were shocked by the shooting spree that left six people dead in Michigan. Police says Dalton was calm when he was taken into custody on Feb. 21st.

Kalamazoo, Mich. — What would drive someone to shoot and kill six people seemingly at random?

Police still are baffled at the reason suspect Jason Dalton opened fire on eight people, killing six, at three separate scenes around Kalamazoo, Michigan Saturday.

Investigators are still working to determine a motive why Dalton, who neighbors described as a family man, according to the Detroit Free Press, went on the rampage.

"There is no connection that we're aware of between the three sets of victims to either or any of the victims to Mr. Dalton," Kalamazoo prosecutor Jeff Getting told the Detroit Free Press. "They appear to have been chosen at random, because they were available."

Dalton is married since 1995 and has two kids. The family lived in rural Cooper Township, according to Michigan Radio. Neighbors said he enjoyed working on cars.

Dalton worked as an insurance adjuster and also moonlighted as an Uber driver. Dalton reportedly continued to pick up fares as he went to the various shooting scenes. The company has said he passed their background check. He has no other known criminal or mental health history.

"We sure wouldn't have suspected anything," Sally Pardo, who lives across the street from the Dalton family, told Michigan Radio. "We were shocked. Absolutely shocked."

However in recent days he had grown paranoid, according to WWMT, and was known to randomly shoot guns.

Police said Dalton was taken into custody without incident.

"He seemed pretty even-tempered," Getting told the Detroit Free Press. "He did not present in a combative way or an emotional way at all."

Dalton is charged with six counts of murder.
