What you need to know about Mass 211

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The phone have been ringing off the hook at the Mass 211 call center in Framingham, and just about every caller has a snow-related problem.

Lynne Pizette of Mass 211 said, "Juno, Linus, Marcus, all those storms we've been inundated with those types of calls."

She went on to say, "We had one caller from the Attleboro area who had a temp job in Boston and he went in for the temp job but then couldn't get home and he spent his last $70 getting a hotel for the night then called us back the next day still trying to get out of the city."

The inundation began during the blizzard, as the snow totals grew so did the number of weather-related calls into the hotline, they took 2400 in 20 hours. The number of call-takers doubled in size and so did their hours worked.

And it still hasn't stopped.

"Storm related calls, just speaking about today, hundreds more than we normally get into the line," Pizette said.

But that doesn't translate to the caller either in the wait time- only between two and five minutes- or in the demeanor of the call-taker.

"That is what we're here for so we're happy to be of service," she said.

Mass 211 is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the week and available to help with more than storm-related concerns. If you don't want to wait on the line for assistance, you can access the Mass 211 database online at mass211.org.
