Two women arraigned for attempting to rob elderly woman in Revere

REVERE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Revere police say two women have been  arrested after attempting to rob an elderly woman of her purse.

Last Friday, police allege that one woman from Revere and a Lynn woman approached an 83-year-old woman outside the One Stop Convenience store on Revere Street and asked her for money. When the victim refused, police say the women attempted to take her purse.

During the struggle, the woman fell and suffered an injury to her shoulder. She was taken to a local hospital and then sent home to recover. The suspects, unable to take the woman's purse, fled.

After interviewing witnesses, Revere officers arrested two women about an hour after the incident was reported.

Brittney Ross, 24, of Lynn, and 29-year-old Amanda McManus of Revere were arraigned on charges including unarmed robbery on a person over 60 and assault and battery on a person over 60 with injury. Ross is being held on $5,000 cash bail and McManus is being held on $1,000 cash bail.

The pair will return to court on Thursday.
