“While drug trafficking organizations employ a wide variety of methods to move their illicit product, CBP officers continue to utilize high-tech tools coupled with inspection experience to interdict these narcotics loads and keep our communities safe,” Paul Del Rincon, director of the Eagle Pass Port of Entry, stated in a news release.

According to the agency, a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 41-year-old woman and U.S. citizen traveling from Mexico, was stopped for a secondary inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge II.

A physical inspection of the driver’s belongings yielded one package of what lab testing later confirmed to be black tar heroin. Another seven packages of the narcotic were discovered in the personal belongings of the driver’s passenger, a 33-year-old man and U.S. citizen, the agency stated.

A ninth package was discovered concealed within the vehicle, and officers estimated the total weight of the bust to be 15.4 pounds.

According to the agency, the narcotics and vehicle were seized, and both the driver and passenger were arrested. Their cases have been turned over to special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security investigations for further investigation.
