DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is facing charges after he allegedly shot and killed a tire shop employee working on his car.
DeKalb County Police told WSB-TV that officers were called to a shooting at Tires Plus just before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Police said the suspect, Quadarious McDowell, had taken his car into the shop for a brake inspection. The victim, identified as Daniel Gordon, was an employee of Tires Plus.
“Why you know? He didn’t have to do that,” co-worker John Claude Edwards told WSB-TV. “We shouldn’t have to go through this. It’s just a test drive for him to get killed, a young brother.”
Investigators said that Gordon was doing a test drive to look at the car before beginning work on it, but McDowell believed his car was being stolen.
“He saw him in uniform,” Edwards told WSB-TV. “He’s got his bag with the work order in it and everything to test drive the vehicle. Why would you think anything different?”
“You can’t even feel safe at work. It’s just sad,” a friend of the victim told WSB-TV. “It’s a sad day. You can’t even call this a wrong place at the wrong time situation because literally, you’re at work.”
Police said that McDowell tried to run from the scene, but officers tracked him down and charged him with murder, WSB-TV reported.
