An Amazon warehouse and distribution center may soon come to Braintree - if the town's planning board approves the proposal.
Traffic has been a major concern from residents as they say the new Amazon facility would only disrupt the already busy traffic in the area.
Residents and Amazon representatives sat down for a planning board meeting Tuesday night. While mostly residents showed up, some business owners spoke out about the traffic they say the retail giant will bring.
Amazon is looking to take over the former "United Liquors" on Campanelli Drive and operate a 200,000-square foot warehouse and distribution center.
They expect to create hundreds of jobs and bring in a lot of tax revenue.
Packages will be shipped to Braintree from nearby Amazon fulfillment and sorting centers. They will then be loaded into vans, trucks and privately owned cars and delivered to customers.
Residents and business owners, however, have put up "Stop Amazon Traffic" signs on their properties, saying having hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles coming and going each day around the clock will make their already bad traffic situation even worse.
Opponents point to the already heavily congested Granite Ave, Franklin Street and 5 Corners, particularly during rush hour.
However, Amazon's traffic studies indicate the operations will not negatively affect the city.
In a statement, Amazon told Boston 25 News:
"We are excited to continue our investment in Massachusetts to speed up delivery times for customers and provide great job opportunities for the talented workforce."
