Three-alarm fire rages in Quincy Sunday morning

QUINCY, Mass. — A three-alarm fire broke out in Quincy early Sunday morning on Copeland Street in the city.

Quincy Fire responded to the blaze at 41 Copeland St. around 5:30 in the morning, according to the department's Deputy Fire Chief. A resident of the building told Boston 25 News that the fire began on the first floor when that man's couch caught fire.

"We tried to get the couch out...we had to leave the couch there and evacuate," said Richard Bridgeman. "We waited for the fire department."

When Bridgeman was unable to put out the flames himself, he yelled to everyone t get out of the building.

Currently, one person has been treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

A woman living on the second floor heard Bridgeman's warning and got out safely. She told Boston 25 News that this isn't the first time that building has caught fire.

"There was a fire on this first floor, on the opposite side, that happened five years ago,"  she said. "It was a total gut job, but our apartment only had smoke damage. So it’s déjà vu all over again."
