Super Bowl fan shells out $6,000 for fake tickets

BOSTON — A fan coughed up $6,000 to go to the Super Bowl only to get scammed.

The awful moment was caught on camera.

The fan thought he went through every channel he could to make sure these tickets were not fake.

Cody Sudmeier said he didn’t want to pay processing fees, but after finding tickets on Craigslist he decided to use an insured payment system.

"I found this one seller who was selling two tickets three thousand dollars each which was a good deal but not unreasonable that it was an obvious scam or anything like that,” he said. "I reached out to him and said 'are you okay with Paypal but it's going to be the protected Paypal so you're not going to get your money if this is a scam’ and he said ‘yea that's fine we'll do it that way.’"

When an envelope arrived in the mail Cody’s girlfriend recorded his excitement as he opened it and his disappointment as he realized it was empty.

Police were able to track the scammer to Kansas.
