Residents worry after incident leads to seizure of dirt bikes, ATVs

BROCKTON, Mass. — Two people were detained and multiple dirt bikes and ATVs were seized in Brockton on Monday.

According to the Brockton Enterprise, Brockton Police got several calls on Monday for disturbances in the Market Street area involving dirt bike and ATV riders.

"They were going fast," Lucy Merriman said after hearing at least three riders and seeing two. "They were racing up and down the street, side streets."

Police responded to a report around 2:45 p.m. saying where the riders were, and the drivers were then seen on Plain Street by an undercover detective, according to The Brockton Enterprise.

At least six police cruisers searched the area for the riders, and then detained the two and seized their bikes on Summer Street.

Now, Merriman is concerned for pets and children in the area getting scared or hurt if this sort of incident happens again.

"It is bothersome to me, because I feel that there's children and people who have smaller pets," Merriman said.

Merriman was at least happy to know some of the riders were caught, as the bikes and ATVs were loaded onto a flatbed and taken away.

"Well, I'm glad that they did," Merriman said. "I think there's a time and a place for that, you know?"

Another ATV was found behind a home on Montello Street.
