Rash of dirt bike thefts in Plymouth County has police on alert

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- A rash of stolen motorcycles is hitting several local communities, and one connection could be Craigslist.

One of the victims is 16-year-old Brandon Cadorette, whose racing career was reaching new heights before the theft.

"It's a tough pill to swallow. It's like [I’m] in shock, can't believe it happened. You never think it can happen to you until it does,” he said.

Thieves stole Brandon’s dirt bike and his friend's dirt bike from his house in Kingston sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning.

"The thieves took time to take the timbers down, set them off to the side, slide the gate over, walked right over to the shed and busted through it,” Richard Cadorette, Brandon’s father, said.

The bikes are worth about $11,000. Cadorette said he has no idea why they were targeted, but he dad say Brandon’s bike was listed for sale on Cragislist.

Another victim was Geoff O’Connell of Bridgewater. He’d had his dirt bike listed on Craigslist for about a year but did not include his address.

"Somehow someone found out where I live. They knew there were bikes in there,” O’Connell said.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, thieves cut a clothes line then busted into the locked trailer outside O’Connell's home and stole three dirt bikes, worth a total of $17,000.

"It's what I do every weekend of my life. I have no kids, no girlfriend, no wife. I race dirt bikes,” he said.

Police were at O’Connell's house Wednesday morning dusting his trailer for fingerprints.

A similar dirt bike theft was also reported in Mattapoisett. So far there haven’t been arrests in any of the cases.
