BOURNE, Mass. — An investigation is underway in Bourne after a 35-year-old man stabbed himself in the chest Sunday night, according to police and fire officials.
Officials told Boston 25 News first responders were called to a home on 202 North Road around 7:30 p.m.
When police arrived, the man, who was standing in the doorway, ran back inside, grabbed a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed himself in the chest.
Police used a stun gun to on the man to stop him from stabbing himself.
A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but was unable to fly because of the weather. The victim was then taken to a Rhode Island hospital via ambulance.
Bourne Deputy Fire Chief Paul Weeks said the man was brought to a trauma center for treatment of significant injuries.
Chief Weeks believes the man is still alive.
