• Police: Dog killed in Methuen was not shot, was attacked by another animal

A dog killed in Methuen was not shot to death as police previously said, but was attacked by another animal, according to Methuen Police.

Police said that their investigation into the death of a German shepherd on April 4 concluded that the dog was not shot, as a necropsy examination from veterinarian Martha Smith-Blackmore determined the dog was killed in a "mauling attack by one or more other dogs."

The doctor said in her report to police that it's not unusual for fatal dog-on-dog attacks to be mistaken for a shooting.

Police presented the findings to the dog's family, which also has additional dogs in the house, and the investigation is considered closed.
