Plow workers in Worcester asking residents to stay off the roads

WORCESTER, Mass. — Crews in Worcester will be working throughout the night to plow and clear the roads, and they are hoping you stay off of them.

“Predictions are up to 16 inches here in Worcester, if you get 12 inches you just keep going,” said Jay Fink, DPW Commissioner. “We will keep pushing, if temps come up, heavy snow will be problematic, we will push back early so we don’t get behind the eight ball. If it gets too heavy and we start losing equipment, things could go down quick but our goal is to stay on top of it.”

Workers asking you to stay off the road if possible, since their jobs are already hard enough.

The city of seven hills turned into the city of hundreds of plows Monday and even more snow blowers.

“It’s a mess. The wind makes it a little tougher but other than that it’s not too bad it’s kind of late so it’s moving pretty easily,” said Kevin Leach, who is working as a snow remover. “The snow keeps blowing around with the wind so it’s kind of hits you right back in the face, too much fun.”

Fun is one way to describe the weather, especially if you’re out riding your bike or taking a walk.

“We are out for our nightly walk to get our exercise,” said Worcester resident Tori Buerschaper. “It has gotten windier and it is snowing we’re more but compared to when we went out for lunch it was snowing way later then.

“I’m going snowboarding this weekend,” said Phil Carron, who had no choice but to stay the night in Worcester, since his boss says it was too dangerous to drive back to Boston. “I got into the hotel around four and it wasn’t that bad but now it’s bad out.”

The city’s parking ban has been in place since 8:00 a.m. and will continue through the night so if your car is parked on the side of the road, if It hasn’t already been towed, you will want to move it.

Students will learn remotely Tuesday barring any major internet outage. However, meals are still available for children.
