Playground dedicated to Marathon survivor opens

BOSTON — The spirit of a young woman, who survived the marathon bombing but later died in a 2016 crash overseas, lives on at a children's playground.

A new playground dedicated to Victoria Mcgrath opened Sunday at the Dorchester Boys and Girls Club on Deer Street.

Victoria's parents were there to express their gratitude and memories of their daughter.

“Enjoying God forever to me is connected to seeing Victoria again, because I know she's in heaven with God and that gives me a lot of comfort,” her father, Jim, said.

The firefighter who carried Victoria to safety after the bombings, Jimmy Plourde, was also at the dedication.

Her parents gave him an angel for his lapel.
