WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A bronze plaque in memory of fallen Sergeant Michael Chesna now adorns the wall outside the Weymouth Police Department's library.
Chesna's wife, parents and brother gathered with officers Tuesday to view the plaque, which honors Chesna's service to the Town of Weymouth and the United States of America.
Chesna served in the Army right after the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
Captain Joe Comperchio, Chesna's brother-in-law, explained the placement of the plaque. He said Chesna often shared laughs, stories and time with him and department members while working in the library, making it fitting generations of officers will share the same experiences with their fallen brother.
The Chesna family also had the chance to view his locker, which the department memorialized.
Chesna was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 15, 2018.
