Perjury charge dropped against Aaron Hernandez's fiancee Shayanna Jenkins

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A judge has dropped a perjury charge against the fiancee of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez because of an immunity deal.

Prosecutors filed a motion Thursday in Bristol County Superior Court to dismiss the perjury case against Shayanna Jenkins, citing her testimony against Hernandez. The former Patriots tight end was convicted last month of killing Odin Lloyd, who was dating Jenkins' sister.

Jenkins appeared in court Friday morning for a hearing where Judge Susan Garsh, the judge who presided over Hernandez's murder trial, accepted the motion.

The hearing lasted just a few minutes.

Jenkins had pleaded not guilty to perjury for allegedly lying to a grand jury investigating Lloyd's death. She was granted immunity by the court in February and was compelled to testify in Hernandez's trial.

Outside of court, Jenkins's lawyer said Friday was "a long day coming," and added that they were pleased all charges had been dismissed.

"I'm feeling great," Jenkins said after the hearing. "I'm happy to start my future with my daughter and move forward."
