BOSTON — The video is recorded, the editing is completed, and 'Patriots Day' is ready for release.
The movie opens in the Boston-area on Dec. 21, but the stars were ot Wednesday night for a red carpet premiere.
The movie, produced by and starring Dorchester native Mark Wahlberg, is billed as the untold story behind the hunt and capture of the Boston Marathon bombers.
“It happened in my hometown, I felt an enormous sense of pride seeing how my community responded,” Wahlberg said.
Wahlberg plays the role of a fictional Boston police sergeant named Tommy Saunders.
“Obviously the bombing is a part of it, but it really is everyone coming together after and how love wins and conquers so that was the focus,” he said.
On the red carpet, Watertown Police Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese, a real officer who exchanged gunfire with the Tsarnaev brothers, spoke about when he was face to face with older brother Tamerlan.
“His gun jammed, he threw it at me hit me in the left arm, he took off running and I chased him down and tackled him,” Pugliese said.
Pugliese is portrayed by actor J.K. Simmons in the film. Another real character is former Boston FBI Director Richard DesLauriers, played by Kevin Bacon.
“I thought the script captured the tension of that week very, very well,” DesLauriers said.
Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz appears in the movie, recreating his famous speech at Fenway Park after the bombing.
“It's based on something that we all know about, we lived through it and a lot of emotions are going to be all over place,” Ortiz said.
