BOSTON — Police in South Boston are warning residents to be aware for a man they say is stealing packages from outside homes.
People who live in the neighborhood told FOX25 they believe the man follows the delivery truck around and takes what he wants.
One witnesses said he saw the man take a package then dump it on the street when he didn't like what was inside.
"Gentleman riding a bike, I saw him pick up a box from the house behind me here, took off with it," Kevin Byrne told FOX25.
No one can identify the thief for sure, but several people said they've gotten a pretty good look at him.
Byrne told FOX25 he didn't think much of what he saw, until he saw the box ripped open and lying in the street.
That's when he checked the address and returned the package to the rightful owner.
"I just told him, I don't know if you get stuff delivered a lot, I said there was a guy who took a box from here, obviously he didn't like what was in there and dropped it," he said.
As the holiday shopping season approaches, people who live in the area hope police can identify the man.
"Well you just don't feel as secure, because if they're willing to do that what else will they do," Byrne said.
