One person hurt after SUV crashes through Mattapan cemetery

BOSTON — One person was taken to the hospital after an SUV crashed through the chain link fence surrounding the Mattapan cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Boston Police, the crash happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Walk Hill and Harvard streets.

Preliminary investigation shows an SUV crashed into the traffic light control panel at the intersection before barreling down to the cemetery, going through a chain link fence and taking out at least two large headstones before coming to a stop at a tree.

Boston Police tell us one person was transported to an area hospital, but it is unclear whether the injured party was the driver, a passenger or a pedestrian. The victim's condition has not been disclosed.

Authorities spent hours investigating, but left the scene at around 4 p.m.

The SUV had to be towed away from the scene.
