SALEM, N.H. — A man has been arrested and charged with trying to set his mother’s house on fire in Salem, N.H.
Investigators with Salem police told FOX25 27-year-old Justin Kane tried to set the home on fire on Sunday.
Police searched for Kane for hours Sunday, and the New Hampshire State Police helicopter was used to help track him.
FOX25’s Malini Basu was at the home on North Main Street as police talked to Kane’s mother. She said her and her son got into an argument. Minutes later, police told FOX25 Kane tried to burn down the home by dousing the deck with gasoline and setting it on fire.
Neighbors near the home said there was an intense police search for Kane.
“A police officer came in and said if you hear a helicopter don't be scared--you said there were a bunch of canine units down the street and there were a bunch of cops,” one witness told FOX25.
Hours later, Kane was caught on Goodhue Road in Derry, N.H. at his father’s home. Police were able to find Kane after tracking his cell phone.
Kane faces arson charges and will be arraigned in Salem District Court on Monday.
