N.H. lawmaker called a 'purveyor of rape' resigns

LACONIA, N.H. — The New Hampshire state representative behind a controversial website about women Has resigned.

Robert Fisher, a Republican from Laconia, was unmasked as the founder and moderator of The Red Pill, an online forum known for promoting rape culture and degrading women.

Although the legislative committee decided not to sanction him for his online musings about whether rape is actually a bad thing, Fisher announced he was vacating his seat for the safety of his family and his girlfriend.

The New Hampshire legislature was limited in their ability to sanction Fisher because the statements he made happened before he took office last November, but many on both sides of the aisle spoke out against him in a hearing last week.

"He is a purveyor of rape in our state and in our nation. It is our responsibility in this body to work with vigilance to eradicate this vile scourge from our ranks and from our state,” Rep. Debra Altschiller said.

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu and House Speaker Shawn Jasper recommended right after the story broke that Fisher resign, but he initially refused.
