Nathan Carman puts Vermont home up for sale to hire lawyer

Nathan Carman is selling his house as he looks for money to hire a lawyer after being accused of murder by his family members.

Carman's house, a three-story, 6,207 square-foot home in Vernon, VT, was listed for $149,000 by Brattleboro Area Realty, with the realtor's description calling it a "rare and amazing opportunity in Vernon."

The home is empty after Carman gutted the inside, and the realtor said in the listing that "the possibilities are endless."

The 24-year-old is listing the home after Judge David King told Carman in court that he should seek a lawyer. Carman represented himself in a New Hampshire court last week after his aunts accused him of murdering his grandfather John Chakolos and his mother Linda for inheritance money.

Chakolos was found dead in his bed in December of 2013 after being shot to death. Court documents say Carman was the last to see Chakolos alive after the two had dinner the night before.

Three years later, Carman's mother was presumed lost at sea after she and Carman went missing on a fishing trip. Carman was found drifting in a life a week later.

Carman bought the house in 2014 for half the new listed price, spending $70,000 on the home. Now, with the construction on the inside, anyone looking to buy the house will need to sign a hold-harmless agreement.
