Prosecutors: Man stabs mother, stepfather in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Two people suffered serious injuries after a man who police said was visiting his mother and stepfather from Florida began stabbing them early Monday.

Bridgewater Police Chief Chris Delmonte said officials responded to a 911 call around 5 a.m. for reports of a stabbing on Yoke Road and found a man and a woman with knife wounds.

Bridgewater Police Captain Thomas Schlatz said the suspect, 27-year-old Andrew Soto, of Leesburg, Florida, had just arrived at the home in Bridgewater last night after he was picked up at the airport by the couple.

Prosecutors identified the couple as Soto-Bonnett's stepfather and mother. Police have still not named the victims.

Schlatz said the female victim woke up for work and the suspect called her into the hallway and began stabbing her. The male victim attempted to intervene and stop Soto and was wounded.

Both victims were conscious when officers arrived, Schlatz said, and they were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with serious, but non-life threatening injuries to the head, neck and face. The male victim also had wounds on the lower torso.

Police said the female victim fled to a neighbor's house.

Police said they found 3 knives inside the home, where the blade of one was covered in blood and bent at a 90 degree angle. Authorities also said the suspect told police he's schizophrenic.

Soto was arrested at the scene and transported to the Bridgewater Police headquarters and then to a local hospital. He is expected to be booked later Monday on two counts of attempted murder, according to police.

Police did not say if there was a known motive for the stabbing.
