MSP: 37-year-old man in custody after stabbing woman on Esplanade

BOSTON — The Massachusetts State Police have taken a man into custody after an alleged stabbing took place along the Esplanade in Boston on Friday afternoon.

That suspect has been identified as Luis Olivo, 37, who has addresses listed in both Boston and Everett.

The victim is a 23-year-old woman from Allston, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She has been transported to Mass. General Hospital where she is undergoing emergency surgery.

The incident occurred at 3:50 p.m. near the footbridge between the Esplanade and the Lagoon. Police arrested Olivo at the intersection of Commonwealth Ave. and Dartmouth St. after a pursuit on foot.

According to law enforcement, Olivo allegedly attacked the victim without a prior interaction, stabbing her in the head with a pair of scissors before tackling her to the ground on the bridge and striking her.

The scissors that police believe were used in the crime were recovered from Olivo during the arrest. Police say that one Trooper used his stun gun to help subdue the suspect.

Officials have charged Olivo with a number of offenses.

  • Aggravated assault and battery
  • Assault and battery
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct

Olivo was also charged with an unrelated outstanding warrant.

There have been no updates victim's condition. Police say that, according to their initial investigation, the victim was walking or running by herself when she was attacked.
