Local foundation gives $200,000 donation toward recent efforts to help Afghan evacuees

WOBURN — The Cummings Foundation surprised the President of The International Institute of New England with a $200,000 donation toward the organization’s recent efforts with local Afghan evacuees.

The Cummings Foundation is led by Medford native, Bill Cummings and they are known for the great work they do in the Massachusetts communities. The foundation typically donates $25 million annually. That money is mostly sent to small non-profits.

IINE has welcomed 193 evacuees to Eastern parts of Massachusetts and expects to be welcome at least 232 more evacuees in the coming weeks.

The Institute’s President and CEO submitted a two-page proposal to the Cumming’s Foundation in the hopes to receive $100,000 in grants but the foundation went above and beyond and doubled that amount.
