Fall River priests suspended due to alleged misconduct

FALL RIVER, Mass. — FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - Two Catholic priests in Massachusetts have been placed on leave due to allegations of misconduct.

The Herald News reports the Fall River Diocese suspended Father Daniel Lacroix and Father Richard Degagne.

A release from the diocese did not clarify the nature of the allegations but said the misconduct is said to "have occurred decades ago."

The decision to investigate these claims was made because of information found during an external review of the diocese's personnel files.

A letter from Bishop Edgar da Cunha announced the suspensions to Fall River Diocese parishioners.

The allegations have been referred to the Bristol County and Cape & Islands District Attorney's Offices. According to the diocese, the priests will remain on leave pending further investigation.

Both priests have denied the alleged misconduct.
