MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) - A Cape Cod school superintendent has been placed on indefinite leave after allegedly barging into a student's home uninvited to see if she actually lived there.
The Cape Cod Times reports the Mashpee School Committee voted unanimously Thursday night to place Superintendent Brian Hyde on paid leave following a 45-minute closed-door emergency meeting.
Hyde pleaded not guilty earlier Thursday to charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a misdemeanor and trespass. His next court date is Nov. 13.
Marilyn King, the mother of a Mashpee Middle-High School student, says Hyde entered her home in September without permission, rummaged through her daughter's belongings and angrily demanded to know where the 17-year-old slept.
Hyde has said he invited into the home to do a routine residency check.
