Martin Richard's family helped neighbor before Tsarnaev sentencing

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Instead of waiting at the courthouse in Boston for the verdict to come down against Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Martin Richard's family was helping one of their neighbors Friday morning.

Martin Richard was the youngest victim of the marathon bombings, and while survivors waited to hear if the man responsible would live or die, Martin's father was helping his neighbor decide where to go to college.

Bill Richard was at Bridgewater State University Friday with one of his neighbors, helping him explore the campus and meeting the school's president. Bill's wife, Denise, and their daughter, Jane, who was injured in the bombings, were named special guests during the school's undergraduate graduation on Saturday.

Bill and Denise returned to Boston and were in the courtroom Friday afternoon when the verdict was read. The school's president, Mohler-Faria, commended Bill for helping his neighbor instead of waiting at the courthouse for the verdict.

The Richard family has not commented on Tsarnaev's sentence, but they did say last month that they were against the death penalty for the marathon bomber.
