LOWELL, Mass. — Police in Lowell tell FOX25 they have arrested 32-year-old William Tighe for allegedly stealing a woman's vehicle at a Tewksbury gas station.
The woman was pumping gas when Tighe allegedly got into her vehicle and drove away Saturday night.
"She said that her car got stolen, someone took off with her car," a gas station attendant told FOX25. "When she wasn't paying attention, pumping her own gas, he just hopped right in and tried to take off with it. He tried to close the door and she fought back."
The woman was dragged a short distance as her vehicle was driven away, but she did not have any major injuries.
With the assistance from @LowellPD and @MassStatePolice, TPD has taken Tighe into custody in Lowell. No additional details at this time. https://t.co/BVFNsCY5Ry

Police said Tighe was spotted near his girlfriends house at 204 Acropolis Rd. When police arrived there was a short foot chase but he was caught and arrested.
"We acted on an anonymous tip that he was in Lowell at a location so surveillance cars started monitoring the area until we eventually found him,” Tewskbury Police Detective Michael Donovan said.
Tighe will spend the night at the Tewksbury Police Department and is set to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, with the weapon being the car.
As for the victim, police said she's happy Tighe is off the street.
"The victim's good. I spoke with her today, she's in good spirits and happy he's apprehended,” Donovan said.
