Man charged with harassment after posting fake Craigslist ads

NATICK, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Natick man told FOX25 his nightmare after getting dozens of harassing phone calls every day, for weeks and police say his contractor is to blame.

A stack-able washer and dryer, a table and chairs and a pile of scrap metal were all items offered for sale or free on Craigslist with the same contact number and dozens of people responded.

But the posts weren't real. According to a police report FOX25 obtained Thursday, the ads were posted by 51-year-old Richard Froais, a Somerville contractor. He is accused of making the phony ads just to harass a man who gave him a review on Yelp entitled "Stay Away."

The Yelper is a 36-year-old IT professional. FOX25's Ted Daniel spoke with him Thursday afternoon for about a half an hour on his porch. He says he hired Froais to do his bathroom and kitchen, but after paying him $3,000 for labor, Froais stopped showing up.

Froais also created posts claiming the Yelper is a dangerous sex offender. Which is not true.

We attempted to contact Froais and his attorney, but were unable to reach them.

He's been charged with harassment and his Yelp page now says his business is closed.
