BOSTON — About 450 children with autism and their parents got the chance to practice going through airport security, finding their gate and boarding a plane this weekend at Logan Airport.
Logan hosted its 19th annual "Wings for Autism" event, where organizers said the event helps children establish a routine, which is something that many people with autism benefit from.
One mom said she brought her two children to prepare for an upcoming trip.
"Being able to walk through the airport, follow the same procedures that would be expected of them in a few weeks, is going to relieve a lot of anxiety for them and know what to expect and help us better prepare as parents as well," said Melanie Nazarian.
Logan Airport officials said the event is a great training opportunity for TSA and airport staffers to learn how to accommodate children with special needs.
