WooSox get ready for home opener

WORCESTER, Mass. — It’s the home opener at Polar Park in Worcester. The WooSox are already five and one on the season and this afternoon they kick off their homes series in front of fans.

Even though this is the second year at the park, there are still a lot new things fans will notice. For starters---parking. The parking garage will be open. The park wasn’t completely ready last year for the home opener because covid slowed some things down, but this year everything is a go.

Last year’s opening day welcomed less than 2,500 fans because of the state’s capacity restrictions due to covid. Today, the park can be at its capacity of about 9,500. The new parking garage is now open which has 350 spaces. There is also an app that allows fans to shop, tap, and go at the WooSox Market.

Businesses in and around the park are also excited to get the season started. The Sausage Guy from Fenway is among the many who have set up concession stands inside for today’s game.

“Their second year open but first opening day with full capacity that’s special right and we’re thrilled to be part of it, we’re bringing a ton of food and we’re going to be here early and ready to go,” said David Littlefield, The Sausage Guy Owner.

“Very excited but I’m nervous too because you just don’t know what to expect, but I do have a lot of staff on, so we don’t have to worry about that,” said Julie Sargentelli, of the White Eagle Bar and Tavern.

Today will feature the opening ceremony and then the first pitch is at 3:05 this afternoon. The WoSsox are playing a six-game home series against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
