Winter weather advisory through Tuesday morning before midweek ‘impact storm’ arrives

DEDHAM, Mass. — There is a winter weather advisory in effect for parts of Massachusetts through late Tuesday morning before a midweek “impact storm system” moves into the region.

The National Weather Service issued the advisory for Northern Berkshire, Western Franklin, Northern Worcester, Wester Hampshire, and Northwest Middlesex counties until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A light wintry mix of rain, snow, and ice will likely lead to slick travel for areas of higher elevations, Boston 25 Meteorologist Vicki Graf warned in her latest forecast.

Monday started dry and sunny, but rain will move into Massachusetts between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., likely causing slow travel for the evening commute.

The rain will wind down late Monday night but the threat for slick travel north of Route 2 through Tuesday morning will persist.

Parts of northern New England, including New Hampshire, will mainly snow from this storm system.

Tuesday will be mainly dry, but a “big impact storm system” will arrive by 7 a.m. Wednesday and intensify through the afternoon into the evening.

Some parts of the Bay State could see up to inches of rain with Wednesday’s storm, according to Graf.

“We’re expecting some really heavy rain, 1 to 2 inches across the area,” Graf said in her forecast. “But also some strong and even damaging wind gusts potentially...We will get a soaking rainfall.
