Police confirm an 11-year-old boy was driving his snowmobile with three other people on the lake when they tried to cross a dangerous pressure ridge. While they were crossing, the boy failed to negotiate the ridge, which caused the snowmobile to flip and eject him.
Officers at the scene rendered aid and conducted a patient assessment until Gilford Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene. Gilford Fire and Rescue determined the boy suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, which prompted them to dispatch a DHART helicopter before they airlifted him to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.
No further details have been released at this time.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the boy’s hometown as Westwood.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
