Waltham Police seek public’s help to ID suspect who attacked woman

WALTHAM, Mass. — Police in Waltham are hoping someone will recognize a man captured on surveillance video on Halloween night.

He was captured walking past cameras at a money transfer business on Moody Street in Waltham. Later that night, police said he attacked a woman a half-mile away on Moody Street. Women in town are concerned.

“Yeah, it’s a little bit nerve-wracking, especially since it’s a little bit more local,” said Maggie Bonanno, who is from Waltham.

Waltham Police said it happened later Halloween night.

“I feel like you hear a lot of creepy stuff happen on Halloween anyways. People are...they let their guards down on holidays like that, especially when they’re out in public trying to have fun,” said Lauren Bolli, who is from Waltham.

Police said the pictures captured the suspect about a half mile away and 30-to-45 minutes before the assault. Waltham Police told Boston 25 it happened near the intersection of Moody and High streets and that it was at about 12:15 a.m. on November 1.

They said a male came up behind the woman, grabbed her and actually dragged her off the sidewalk trying to steal her phone. But that’s when some cars came up the street sending that suspect off running.

“It’s pretty crazy. It’s a really busy place and a lot of people are here all the time, so it’s kind of shocking that something like that could happen,” Bolli said.

Police also want it to be a warning for women to be on alert until that man is caught. The women we spoke to told Boston 25 they will take precautions.

“Yeah definitely. Probably would come here and make sure I’m not alone,” Bonanno said.

Her friend agrees.

“Yeah, absolutely. I think I do anyways, I walk around with people. I don’t go out alone in public alone that often.”

If you do recognize the man in the pictures, Waltham Police want to hear from you.
