HOLBROOK, Mass. — There were snipers, drones and dogs all surrounding a Union Street home Monday, but police said their suspect is in custody after a five-hour standoff.
“There’s a lot of police out there, SWAT team, they just came looking for somebody,” said Abraham Abed, owner of Corner Grill & Pizzeria. “It was kind of quick. They didn’t give us a chance to shut off any equipment but told us we need to leave now.”
According to the police, they had to evacuate nearby homes and businesses when that standoff started at 11 a.m. after officers went to the home to serve an arrest warrant on Noah Hennessey, 31. That’s when they say he barricaded himself inside with his girlfriend.
“He’s known to us, so once we went to knock, he knew it was a warrant,” said Chief William Smith. “He said he was not going back to jail, and once he started slamming stuff against the door and barricading the door, we knew right there we had a situation.”
Police said, eventually, the girlfriend climbed out the back window and gave them helpful info to enter the apartment and arrest Hennessey, ending the standoff peacefully.
The people and businesses were finally able to go back inside and the officers could also get out of the cold, but they did get some warm pizza as a thank you.
“We wanted to be nice,” Abed said. “They were doing the hard job.”
Holbrook Police requested support through the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council [MetroLEC] and Massachusetts State Police. Police even brought in his sponsor and his girlfriend’s father to help.
Police say they eventually recovered a long knife inside the home but don’t believe he ever used it in a threatening manner. In addition to the original six outstanding warrants, Hennessy now also faces kidnapping and resisting arrest charges. He will be staying at Holbrook Police station Monday and will be in court Tuesday morning.
