‘Star-Struck’: Celebrities and Royals walk the Green Carpet at Earthshot Award Ceremony

BOSTON — Prince William and Princess Katherine’s three-day tour in and around Boston ends Friday night with the Earthshot Prize ceremony at Boston’s MGM Music Hall.

The crowd started to line the street early Friday as they prepared the Green Carpet for all the celebrities who have arrived for the Earthshot Boston 2022 Awards show.

Boston Mayor Wu, Governor Baker, John Kerry, Shailene Woodley, Catherine O’Hara, and David Beckham are among the VIP.

The Earthshot Prize offers $1.2 million in prize money to each of the winners of five separate categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change.

The winners and all 15 finalists also receive help in expanding their projects to meet global demand.

Bree Cooke and her friends said they got in place on Lansdowne Street at 9:45 in the morning, hoping to catch one last glimpse of the prince and princess.

“We’re huge Royal followers,” Cooke said. “It’s really neat. Kate and William are different. I think they are kind of what everybody wants to be.”

Celia Gagnon grew up in Britain and moved to Massachusetts when she was 19.

“It’s difficult to see them in England so we thought this was our best chance to see them now,” Gagnon said. “As long as we can get a glimpse, we’d be very happy.”

Lilly Christopher drove down from Syracuse to see the royal couple.

“It’s like a dream come true, like you don’t think it’s possible. It seems so unreal to be in the same vicinity and now you’re here and it’s like, oh my God, I’m with the future king and queen,” Christopher said.

Prince William and Princess Kate are scheduled to announce the winners on Friday night as part of a glitzy show headlined by Billie Eilish, Annie Lennox, Ellie Goulding and Chloe x Halle. The show will also feature videos narrated by naturalist David Attenborough and actor Cate Blanchett.
