Slick, untreated roads may be worse by Friday morning as the temperatures drop

HAVERHILL, Mass. — Slick, untreated roads may be even worse by Friday morning as the temperatures drop.

“It’s not that it’s a lot of snow, it’s just slick and heavy underneath,” said Jay Wickeri, who couldn’t get his car up the driveway Thursday in Haverhill.

Wickeri had to shovel his driveway before it all turned to ice overnight.

“It was just so compacted down with sleet and ice and then you had the nice fluffy snow on top, but just that ice I couldn’t get the car up it,” said Wickeri.

While the main roads were no problem for many, some of the side streets were a mess Thursday after areas like this got more than five inches of snow.

“Even this will be slippery tomorrow because you’re not going to get it all up, so I’ll have to put some salt down,” said Wickeri.

While the cleanup continues, families on winter break were excited to take advantage of the fresh powder.

“We love the snow, we shoveled at home first, got the car out and came here,” said Milada Balaz, who took her two children to Ski Bradford for the day.

This winter storm was a treat for those hitting the slopes.

“The fresh snow today brought out more people than we’ve had all week,” said Dennis Gauvin, ski patrol director at Ski Bradford.

After a slow winter, the fresh coating was very much welcomed at local ski resorts.

“A lot of people don’t see snow in the backyard, they don’t think about skiing unfortunately, but with this fresh snow hopefully it’s going to change their mind for the rest of the week and we’ll go from there,” said Gauvin.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
