FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Grills, Patriots flags, Patriots gear, a football to toss and tents. This is how Patriots fans came to tailgate at Gillette in blazing heat to see the first pre-season game since Covid.
We asked what makes a good tailgate. The Pettenati family from Saugus weighed in.
“Good food, good friends, being with your kid, beer,” said Brian Pettenati, who came here with his two sons and his brother.
They are glad to be back at a Pat’s game.
“It’s awesome. Get back into it. Back to normal. It’s good seeing people enjoying themselves,” said his son Alex Pettenati.
And that’s despite temps in the 90′s. “We’re usually here when it’s 20 below so this is great,” said Brian Pettanati.
Also on the agenda, the new players on the team. His son, Stephen Pettenati, had some definite opinions on that.
“I am hoping Mack Jones outplays Cam Newton and that’s pretty much why we’re here to see the new team,” he said.
And not far away we met a lady who calls herself Schwartzie.
“Everybody calls me Schwartzie,” she said.
And Schwartzie came game ready with a generator, a fan and a tent.
“Oh yeah well, you know, I knew it was going to be hot. You’ve got to be comfortable and don’t want anybody overheating,” she said.
She’s also just happy to be back a Gillette. “Well you know it’s pre-season. I’ve got to get back into rhythm just like the team,” she said.
And like the team Pat’s fans are back, here to tailgate, have fun, sone good food and watch a team they’ve missed seeing in person.
“I am very excited. I love NFL football whether its preseason, regular season, any season post season I’m all about it,” Steve Camella, who came down from New Hampshire to see the game.
