BOSTON — After a season-long, team-issued suspension, former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is getting a second chance to be back on an NBA sideline next season .
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Udoka has agreed to a deal to become the next Houston Rockets head coach.
In his first season as an NBA head coach, Udoka brought the Boston Celtics all the way to the NBA Finals in a losing effort against the Golden State Warriors. But the success wouldn’t last long, as the team suspended him for the entire 2022-2023 campaign for violations of team policies.
The deal comes after weeks of speculation and rumors around the league of positions Udoka could fill, including the recently vacated Toronto Raptors head coaching job.
He now makes his way to a Houston Rockets team that tied for the second-worst record in the league at 22-60.
The Celtics currently hold a 3-1 series advantage over the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Boston.
