Pride Month kicks off in Boston

BOSTON — Lights, cameras, action - it’s the kickoff to Pride Month in Boston beginning at Boston City Hall.

The kickoff event was held on the Plaza to celebrate members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“This is our first Pride celebrating as a family since our daughter told us she identifies as bisexual, and we wanted to do something as a family to celebrate that,” said Elisha Gecther, of Boston.

People, including Mayor Michelle Wu, spoke at the event, but not before she celebrated the start of Pride month.

“This event and this month is about lifting up, affirming, celebrating, pushing forward, standing along side our queer community,” said Wu.

This event marks the beginning of a month-long celebration that is new to some.

“This is my first event, so I just want to see what it’s about,” said Ben Ra, of Boston.

And for others it’s a chance to grow into a new community.

“Certainly I’ve been going to Pride events with my friends in high school, but now that I’ve graduated college I’m not in touch with those friends any more so – boyfriend, Pride, Boston,” said Bella Ferrari of Boston.

Boston City Hall will stay lit up in rainbow colors through the month of June.
