BOSTON — Significant damage was done to Newbury Street’s Chanel store after thieves smashed a vehicle through the front entrance and made away with luxury items.

Boston Police were called to the location at 4:29 Friday morning and found an empty grey Nissan Altima inside of the store. Shattered glass covered the sidewalk.

There was no one else in the building at the time, according to police. Officers tell Boston 25 News a man with dark skin about 5′11′' wearing all black was seen leaving the store and getting inside another vehicle driven by a woman who was also wearing black.

About 20 pocketbooks were stolen from the store, according to police.

By 6 a.m., a tow truck was brought in and removed the Altima and a board-up company worker swept glass from the entryway.

The thefts happened in an area with security cameras visible in nearly every storefront. Police are still looking for the suspects who fled and drove toward Massachusetts Avenue.

If you have any information on the crime, you are asked to call Boston Police.

In December, the Burberry store which is right next door to Chanel was broken into by thieves.

It is unknown if the two incidents are connected.
