Officials identify mom and 2 young children found dead in NH home, rule their deaths homicides

NORTHFIELD, N.H. — The deaths of a woman and her two young sons have been ruled homicides, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday.

Law enforcement officials were called to a home on Wethersfield Drive in Northfield shortly after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call for service. Once on scene, officers located the bodies of Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her two sons Benjamin Sweeney, 4, and Mason Sweeney, 1.

“[T]he cause of Ms. Sweeney’s death was a single gunshot wound, and the manner of her death was homicide,” the AG’s office said in news release. “Both Benjamin and Mason also died from single gunshot wounds, and both of their deaths have been determined to be homicides by the Medical Examiner.”

During a Friday afternoon news conference, the AG’s office said the murders were not random and that father of the children is cooperating and “devastated.”

There is no threat to the public and that all individuals involved in the incident have been identified, the AG’s office added.

There have been no arrests made in connection with the homicides.

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for funeral expenses.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
