Milton teen killed while on vacation with her family in Aruba

MILTON, Mass. — A Milton family’s vacation ended in tragedy after 13-year-old Cassidy Murray was killed in a boating accident. The teen was a student at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols, a private school in Cambridge. BB&N Head of School Jennifer Price described Cassidy Murray as a girl who had a special gift for uniting classmates with her smile, laugh and genuine kindness. “She was immediately just one of those kids that united the class,” said Price, “one of those kids who lit up a room with a smile.”

Cassidy was on vacation with her older brother and parents when the school says she was killed in a boating accident. The Murray family told us “Cassidy’s beautiful spirit, genuinely kind heart, bright mind, and joyful zest for life will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. We thank everyone for their love and support.”

BB&N says Cassidy was involved in drama, hockey and gymnastics. “She was just like a beacon on the ice. Always smiling. Always having a good time. She improved dramatically. I understand she was a serious gymnast and we don’t have gymnastics so she was like let’s try ice hockey,” said Price.

Cassidy previously went to Pierce Middle School in her hometown of Milton. Prior to that she attended Glover Elementary. The Milton School Superintendent told us, “there are no words to describe the tragic loss of this vibrant young girl who had so much to offer and her whole life ahead of her.”

Cassidy’s older brother, Adam, is a 10th grader at BB&N so this tragedy is impacting several grades in the school. “We are going to need to work with him and his family. We have already come up with a plan where he can think about what is most supportive for him but I do know hearing from a family friend, Adam wants to get back to school and wants to get back to some sort of routine,” said Price.

We are told Cassidy’s family is still out of the country as they make final arrangements. BB&N is going to open the school Saturday for parents and students if they want to talk to counselors.
