Catch of the day: Natick firefighters find fishing rod of sentimental value at bottom of lake

(Natick Fire Department)

NATICK, Mass. — Fire crews found more than they bargained for while conducting their monthly dive team training Wednesday afternoon.

The Natick Fire Department says that about 6 months ago, a resident contacted the station and mentioned he lost a fishing rod with “significant sentimental value.”

“This was an excellent opportunity for the team to interview an ‘eyewitness’, determine a last seen point, develop a search plan, and execute the search,” the Natick Fire Department said in a statement. “Not to mention helping out a member of the community in a process.”

The department developed a strategy to retrieve the rod and moments later, were able to find the priceless fishing pole and return it to its owner.
