BOSTON — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu on Monday voted to veto the City Council’s proposed pay increases for elected city leaders.
Wu said in a letter that the 20 percent pay bumps the City Council had proposed for councilors and the mayor were out of line with raises proposed for lower-level city workers.
“Like all workers, our elected officials should receive salary increases, but they should square with the increases that our frontline workers have received and are receiving,” Wu wrote.
The proposal called for $125,000 salary for councilors, up from $103,500, and a jump from $207,000 to $250,000 for the mayor.
Wu urged the City Council to adopt more modest pay raises.
