Massachusetts’ Charlie Baker reclaims his status as America’s most popular governor, survey says

BOSTON — A new survey says that Massachusetts’ Charlie Baker is America’s most popular governor once again.

Less than a month away from elections the two-term Republican reclaimed the top spot in the annual Morning Consult poll as the most popular governors.

According to the latest survey, Baker has a 74-percent approval rating from voters, which is the highest of all governors. Vermont Governor Phil Scott is second with a 73-percent rating.

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is ranked 10th with a 59-percent approval ranking, making New England State Governors at the top of the leaderboard for approval.

This new survey comes out just months before Baker will leave office after he decided not to run for re-election back in 2021.

“This was an extremely difficult decision for us,” Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito told state employees last year. “Serving as Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts has been the most challenging and fulfilling job we’ve ever had. We will forever be grateful to the people of this state for giving us this great honor.”

Baker has been among the nation’s most popular chief executives since being in office.

Now the Commonwealth will have to vote between Democratic candidate Maura Healey and Republican candidate Geoff Diehl, for their next governor.

The 2022 Massachusetts gubernatorial election is on November 8th.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
