Mass. Megabucks jackpot reaches record $27.75 million ahead of Saturday drawing

BOSTON — Massachusetts Megabucks players will be vying for a record-breaking prize this weekend.

The game’s jackpot for the Saturday, Aug. 22, drawing has climbed to an estimated $27.75 million, with a cash option of $18.38 million.

According to data from Lottery Post, the jackpot is the largest in Megabucks history and the biggest prize the game has offered since its launch in 1982.

The previous record jackpot was $21.7 million, won on Oct. 16, 1985. Saturday’s drawing will surpass that mark by more than $6 million.

The largest Megabucks jackpot ever won on a single ticket remains the $16.35 million prize claimed from the Sept. 10, 2022, drawing, when the game was known as Megabucks Doubler. That winning ticket was sold in Ware.

The Massachusetts State Lottery redesigned the game in 2023 and returned it to its original Megabucks name.

The jackpot was last won on April 21, 2025, when a player holding a ticket sold in Hyde Park claimed a $1.97 million prize.

Megabucks tickets cost $2 per play and are available only in Massachusetts. Tickets for Saturday night’s drawing can be purchased until 9 p.m., with drawings held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, other major lottery jackpots continue to grow.

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing stands at an estimated $68 million, with a cash option of $29.2 million. The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday night’s drawing is estimated at $113 million, with a cash option of $48.3 million.
