Man has life-threatening injuries after shooting near East Boston park

BOSTON — Boston police are investigating after a man was shot near Albert Lombardi Memorial Park in East Boston late Sunday night.

It happened at the corner of Cunard Way and London Street just before 11 p.m. A large portion of the park was roped off with crime scene tape while police investigated. Boston 25 News crews at the scene spotted about a dozen evidence markers on the ground.

Boston Police said the man was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A neighbor told Boston 25 News that there was a large party with about 50 people at the park Sunday night. Another neighbor said they heard about 15 gunshots.

A man who lives close to the park said he was out for a walk when he heard gunfire.

“I was going for a walk around the neighborhood, just saw a couple shots go off, you know I thought it was fireworks, that’s very common here,” said Aldo Calix, of Boston.

“And then after the second shot I realized it wasn’t fireworks, and realized it was a shooting.

“It was like a barrage, like 12 to 15,” Calix said. “It was like one and then the second gun was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.”

Police have made no arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call Boston Police.
